About Thigh Lift

 

Thighs are one of the most stubborn areas to move fat and lose weight from and they are also one of the commonly affected areas for excess and loose skin after massive weight loss. Thighs are also prone to cellulite. Liposuction of the thigh may not tighten skin effectively so a thigh lift is becoming a more popular option.

 

There are a few different thigh lift procedures – the inner thigh lift, the outer thigh lift, and a butt lift will technically help lift loose skin around the thighs and is often referred to as a lateral thigh lift. A circumferential body lift will also help lift the skin on the thighs, however this is limited and quite often a thigh lift will also be required as a separate procedure. It depends on how much excess, loose skin the patient has and where it is as to which thigh lift will be required. Each type involves incisions and subsequent scars being located in a different position. In some cases, both an inner and outer thigh lift will be required.

 

Most surgeons advise that a patient must have achieved a stable and satisfactory weight for at least 6 – 12 months before having a thigh lift. This avoids having to have a second thigh lift in the case the patient loses more weight after the procedure.

 

 

The Thigh Lift Procedure

 

Through an incision on the inside (medial) thigh, excess skin and fat are removed.  Because the thigh is a cylinder, tightening the skin in the medial side of the thigh will tighten the skin all the way around the thigh.  A medial thigh lift is usually combined with liposuction to remove more fat and further improve the contour of the thighs.

 

 

The Thigh Lift Recovery

 

Most patients do not realise the recovery involved in a thigh lift. Surgery on the thighs involves very minimal movement and physical activity for at least a few days after the procedure and then it’s only slowly introduced over the days and weeks following. Some discomfort is expected, however prescribed medication should help minimise any pain. At least 2 weeks off work is required with normal routine only advised after 6 – 8 weeks.
